Edited vs. Retouched Photos

We get questions all the time about what editing do we do to our photos.  When a client has their photo shoot, whether it is an individual shoot or a photo party, we only “edit” the photos for their same-day viewing.  After they pick their favorite photos to purchase, we retouch the edited photo which is then uploaded on our website in a private, passworded gallery for approval by the client.  We encourage the client to pick out their favorite photos to be retouched before leaving our studio, if at all possible.  This will ensure speedy delivery of their photo book, floating block art or any of the other beautiful photo products we offer.

Here are the differences between an edited photo and a retouched photo:

  • An edited photo includes color correction, cropping and sometimes, a vignette (a dark circle with soft edges around the photo which creates a subtle spotlight effect on the subject).  The edited photo is what the client sees at their viewing which occurs on the same day of their photo shoot.
  • A retouched photo includes skin smoothing, removal of facial shine, blemishes, cellulite, stretch marks, dark circles under eyes, wrinkle reduction.

  • A retouched photo can also include, but costs extra, slimming, any kind of composites (replacing closed eyes, a head from another photo, adding another photo to your picture, etc.)
